Whiskey, Billy Joel, and helicopter rides: MPs’ property and gifts revealed 2023

The most recent inventory of the interests of members of Congress has been disclosed, detailing their property, loans, debts, and gifts.

The list includes a variety of items loaned to former Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern by designers such as Juliette Hogan and Kate Sylvester, as well as jewellery brands Meadowlark and Zoe and Morgan, for the year ending January 31, 2023.

The designer purse manufacturers Yu Mei and Deadly Ponies lent items to Ardern for donation.

Harvard University presented her with a children’s book and a merino cardigan, along with a large wooden basin bearing the presidential seal from US Vice President Joe Biden.

Tickets and corporate hospitality were provided to Ardern for the initial test of the Rugby World Cup between the Black Ferns and Australia as well as the New Zealand vs. Australia cricket match in March 2022.

Christopher Luxon received five NZ Rugby games, two Tennis Auckland matches, and a Gibbston Valley Winery case.

Nicola Willis was given tickets to three Wellington Phoenix football matches and the women’s Rugby World Club final, apparel from Yvonne Benetti, transfers and hospitality during a visit to New York from Air New Zealand, and two tickets to the inaugural night of the World of Wearable Art Show.

Judith Collins received a helicopter ride from Volta Aviation, while Melissa Lee received a tablet from Samsung Korea and All Whites match tickets from ANZ Bank. Infrastructure New Zealand provided Simeon Brown with a ticket to the Building Nations 2022 Conference and lodging at Millbrook Resort.

Diversity, Inclusion, and Ethnic Communities Minister Priyanca Radhakrishnan received VIP Field Days tickets, tickets to the Dawn Raiders perform, a ticket to the Women’s Cricket World Cup 2022 match, and a Pandora bracelet from the spouses of the Christchurch mosque attack victims.

The Silver Fern Farms Limited presented Labour MP Dan Rosewarne with an engraved boning knife, while the Irish Ambassador presented Trade Minister Damien O’Connor with a bottle of whiskey.

Spirits New Zealand donated beverages for the Mori Labour caucus Budget function to Corrections Minister Kelvin Davis.

ACT deputy Brook van Velden received two tickets to Macbeth from the New Zealand Opera, and she and the current deputy prime minister, Carmel Sepuloni, received tickets to Billy Joel.

None of the Green or Te Pti Mori legislators listed gifts in their financial interests.

Only Marama Davidson, Tourism Minister Peeni Henare, Labour Prime Minister Ibrahim Omer, and ACT MP Damien Smith did not own or have interests in property.

Seven of the twenty Cabinet ministers own or have multiple property interests. Chris Hipkins, Jan Tinetti, Ayesha Verrall, Willie Jackson, David Parker, Nanaia Mahuta, and Barbara Edmonds were among those present.

Christopher Luxon, the leader of the National Party, and Nicola Willis, his deputy, both owned or had interests in multiple properties, as did David Seymour, the leader of the ACT Party.
