ICRC participated in 700 humanitarian procedures during Azerbaijani-Armenian war 2023
According to a report from Trend, the Head of the Working Group of Azerbaijan’s State Commission on Prisoners of War, Hostages, and Missing Persons, Ismayil Akhundov, stated that 1,480 Azerbaijanis were freed from captivity and held as hostages during the First Karabakh War. After the Second Karabakh War, 26 Azerbaijanis were freed from captivity and held as hostages.
His information suggests that during the First Karabakh War, more than 500 Armenians were moved to the Armenian side, and during the Second Karabakh War, 181 Armenians were moved in the other direction.
During the Azerbaijani-Armenian war, ICRC directly participated in 700 humanitarian procedures.
“During the course of the conflict, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) took part in the exchange of bodies between the sides. These bodies included those of those who had been killed on the contact line and in combat, as well as those who had died while being held captive.
According to Akhundov, there were around 700 humanitarian operations that were carried out with the direct participation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) throughout the period of collaboration that began in 1992.
