President visits Phu Quy island 2023
On June 17, President Vo Van Thuong attended a flag-raising ceremony at a sovereignty flagpole on Phu Quy island, an island district in the province of Binh Thuan’s south central region.
The pole is one of the sovereignty flagpoles constructed on peripheral islands from the North to the South as part of initiatives initiated by the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, the Association of Vietnamese Students, and the Bank of Investment and Development of Vietnam (BIDV).
Later, President Thuong planted a bang vuong (square-fruit Malabar Almond) tree, which represents the patriotic spirit, vitality, and undying affection for the Fatherland’s seas and islands.
The President presented local fishermen with gifts and over one thousand national flags.
On Phu Quy island, he also presented gifts to the officers and personnel of Radar Station 55 of Battalion 292 and Division 337 of the Air Defence – Air Force.
The State leader praised the Party organization, administration, officers, soldiers, and people of Phu Quy island district for transforming Phu Quy into the first new-style rural district in Binh Thuan and the second island district in the country to attain this status.
Along with economic development, the President emphasized the need to clearly define the task of assuring Phu Quy’s defense and security and securing the island as a top priority for the island district’s Party organization, officers, soldiers, and residents.
He stated that Phu Quy must effectively carry out the mission of the rear and serve as an essential transshipment point for the Truong Sa and DK1 platforms and offshore fishing vessels.
He stated that in addition to increasing the use of technology in fishing, seafood preservation, and processing, Phu Quy island must pay special attention to the development of tourism as a spearhead industry, offering diverse and high-quality tourism products and services that reflect the local identity./.
